From April to September expect a visit average of 40 species, including the mainstay of British seabirds, for which the country is internationally important. In fact the spectacle is so grand that on no account should you miss it. Further specialities are yellowhammers in the surrounding farmland and tree sparrows on the Centre’s feeders. Take an extra layer of clothing: the east coast is always a few degrees cooler than inland.
From Bridlington, trains leave at 0749 for really early risers, 0900 and 1037. You don’t want to be much later than this. These services leave Hull some forty minutes earlier, interspersed by trains that only make it as far as Bridlington.
The journey takes a matter of minutes, and services return at 1029, 1156, 1357 and 1523. The round trip costs £3. If you get stuck, buses also return from the White Horse pub in the village.
Leaving Bempton station, head left along the road that crosses the railway. The official time for walking to the Cliffs is 20 minutes but forget that. Allow 30 plus: this is a good chance to bird typical English arable farmland.
After the 30 mph signs is a pond to your left that’s worth checking. Then just keep following the road straight ahead.
