Treasure at Portbury Wharf

Yellow Wagtail

Two whitethroats, one superb male redstart and two yellow wagtails, all within 50 yards. It couldn’t get any better. Not unless you also count a little egret further round and then a female redstart at the exact same point on the way back. Nor my first house martin of the year right at the end of the walk, which saw a constant stream of swallows and a small party of sand martins.

What else? Great views of blackcaps and a linnet in full song. Portbury Wharf rocks! Also exciting times for all my lists: the year to 149; car-free 94; Somerset a less dramatic 129. Yellow wagtail was common to all and I even managed a crappy record shot of one.
