The Lesson of the Cucumber

As applied to apples.

Tesco always has a choice of cucumber portions: organic or not. There’s a price difference, of course. Sometimes I buy one; sometimes the other – on a whim mostly. In the spirit of generosity to the planet I decided to commit to organic but I was aware of the downside: organic often means foreign and therefore air miles. I checked my latest cucumber – not organic and Spanish, and a loser on both counts (even if it got trucked here through the Chunnel).

A strange synergy arose from focussing on just one product and carried over into yesterday’s apples. Again, Tesco always has organic and it generally has British too, especially at this time of year. I was spoilt for choice. In the event two bags of Kent coxes for the price of one made me a winner too.

Funny how it works like that.
